Now let's dive into the reviews of each individual air fryer, in no particular order...
Philips Airfryer HD9220/28 - The Very Best!
I personally rated this as the best air fryer, and mean every single word of it!
Philips are the ones that invented the air fryers, in all this time there have been many other companies that mimic it, but not a single one that surpasses it.
When looking at all the reviews on this, with over 7 million units sold, it is obvious that MANY people agree.
This unit boasts a 28 oz (1.75 lbs) capacity basket and their patented starfish design so that this air fryer will not only cook your food faster but more evenly than any other product out there.
This Philips Airfryer will fry your food for you, with a tablespoon of oil or less. This means that you are getting up to 75% less fat than if you had fried your food in the traditional way.
The recipe booklet that comes with this fryer has 150+ recipes in it, and like most Philips Air fryers it includes several exclusively designed recipes from chef Gordon Ramsay for Philips air fryers. These recipes can also be found on the Amazon page that this product is linked to.
The unit weighs in at 16.36 lbs and is 13.8 x 13.8 x 15.1 inches in size. This product comes in black or white and has an analog control. It will cook foods up to 390 Fahrenheit up to 30 minutes, and the nonstick coated drawer and food basket are both removable and dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Made by the company who invented air fryers
▲ Has a solid design and is pretty durable
▲ Comes with 150+ recipes
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Cooks food extremely evenly
▲ Won't take up to much room on your counter
▼ Slightly more expensive than some other brands
▼ Analog Controls
▼ Accessories are purchased separately
Overall, I think this is an excellent air fryer.
While it does not have digital controls, that may not matter to some.
If I could change one thing on this unit, it would be digital controls. (Hey, I like pushing buttons :D )
But to me, with the quality you get out of this unit, this air fryer or the Philips XL (reviewed below) is without a doubt - the units I would personally purchase, every time.
Philips XL HD9240/34 - An Excellent Choice
I have to admit, I really like this air fryer...
Basically what you have here is the Philips HD (reviewed above) with a digital control instead of analog, AND a lot more capacity...
Once again, Philips are the ones that invented the air fryers, they know what they are doing, and their design has yet to be surpassed. They hold a patent on their starfish design in the basket, which helps circulate the air faster and ensures everything cooks more evenly.
The capacity of this air fryer? Up to 2.65 lbs... That is almost a pound more of food at a time than the most popular selling air fryer, the above unit.
This Philips Airfryer will fry your food for you, with a tablespoon of oil or less, as well.
What this means is that you are getting up to 75% less fat than if you had fried your food in the traditional way.
The recipe booklet that comes with this fryer has 150+ recipes in it, and like most Philips Air fryers it includes several exclusively designed recipes from chef Gordon Ramsay for Philips air fryers. These recipes can also be found on the Amazon page that this product is linked to.
The unit weighs in at 15.4 lbs and is 15.2 x 15.2 x 15.2 in inches in size. This product comes in black or white, but black can be harder to find at times. It will cook foods up to 390 Fahrenheit up to 60 minutes, and the nonstick coated drawer and food basket are both removable and dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Made by the company who invented air fryers
▲ Has a solid design and is pretty durable
▲ Comes with 150+ recipes
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Cooks food extremely evenly
▲ Larger basket size than most air fryers
▲ Digital Controls
▼ Slightly more expensive than some other brands
▼ Takes up a bit of room on your counter
▼ Accessories are purchased separately
Overall, I think this is a great addition to your kitchen.
It has digital controls and cooks enough food at a time for my family.
I have a pretty good size family, including hungry teenagers that can eat eye-popping amounts of food... (Seriously... where do they put it???)
The downsides could definitely be the increased price for some, and some may not need the extra amount of food cooking at a time like I do for my family.
To me, with the quality, you get out of this unit, this air fryer or the Philips HD (reviewed above) is without a doubt - the units I would personally purchase, every time.
GoWISE USA 5.8-Quart - The Most Economical Choice
This air fryer is a good solid choice. Boasting a 5.8 qt capacity, it would do well for most large families, parties, or get-togethers.
It is sleek and cool to the touch. Not too large at all, so it will easily fit on top of most countertops. One of the reviews on this unit even claimed that it comfortably fit in their RV for use while traveling.
Several of the reviews about this air fryer has claimed it is every bit as good as the Philips models out there! (I haven't personally tried this model so I cannot attest to that.)
I personally really like the state of the art digital touch screen on it. It has a Start/Stop button that makes it easier to change settings anywhere in the middle of a cooking cycle, an alarm function that lets you set an alarm to 5, 10 or 15-minute intervals, an impressive temperature range - 180F to 400F and a max cooking time of 30 minutes!
This air fryer is available in 4 different colors: White, Black, Red, and Plum (who doesn't like a wide variety of color choices on kitchen appliances!?)
It comes with a non-stick FDA certified and PFOA - free pan, each basket is complete with a button guard to prevent accidental detachment. They also remove for easy - painless cleanup.
The booklet that comes with it includes over 50 different recipes for you to try out!
This unit weighs in at 16.45 lbs and has dimensions of 13.5 x 12.5 x 11.5 inches.
A few reviews on this product has claimed that after only a short time the coating on the inside of the basket started to chip and the basket became rusted.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Solid and Durable design
▲ Comes with 50 recipes
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Holds up to the Philips brand across a ton of reviews
▲ Convenient size
▲ Digital Controls
▼ The inner coating on the basket sometimes starts to chip
▼ Warranty on the baskets, etc are only 30 days
▼ Accessories are purchased separately
Overall, I think this is a good steady choice.
The reason I named this one the most economical choice was the fact that it is so much cheaper than the Philips models, and maintains exceptional reviews on its functionality and performance. It gives very good value for your money.
It is one of the few air fryers that will actually go up to 400F. In general, most all stop at 390F.
The unit itself has a 1-year warranty on it, yet the basket, liner, etc is only covered for 30 days... That is the most disappointing part of this air fryer.
Like most air fryers, most of the extra accessories you can get for it are purchased separately, but that is not too much a surprise. I do really like the digital controls on this product though, very neat design to me.
Frenchmay Air Fryer
All in all, another good choice when looking for an air fryer.
This unit boasts 3.7 qt capacity, 1500 watts, digital display, and controls.
It cooks up to 400F, instead of 390F like many other models and brands do. It can be programmed for auto start and shut off, and can cook for up to 30 minutes on its timer.
It has 7 different presets for cooking fish, steak, chicken, shrimp, meat, fries/chips, and cake. (cake?? yes.... cake!)
Removable parts are dishwasher safe and easy to clean, it features a cool-touch housing so you do not burn yourself when taking your food out. All of the inner parts are FDA certified safe and free of PFOAs.
Frenchmay also has a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their product. If you find you do not like it, within 60 days, you can return it for a full refund. Also, if it happens to get damaged or break within the first year, they will replace the unit for free! That is pretty sweet.
This product has an adjustable thermostat ranging from 180F to 400F, 60-minute timer to set for when you want it to start cooking, and 30 minutes of cook time. The product height is 14.38 in and weight is 13.4 lbs.
There have been several claims that this product does not maintain the proper temperature that you set it at. In fact, some have reported it is as much as 20-30 degrees lower than the temperature it was set to, for me that is a big deal... For others, it may not be as much.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Sleek and Durable design
▲ Comes with a recipe book
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Good warranty
▲ Auto on/off timers
▲ Digital Controls
▼ Does not always maintain proper temperature
▼ Accessories are purchased separately
Overall, it is a decent choice.
If you don't mind compensating for temperature variation, or figuring out exactly what you need to cook things at rather than following the cookbook, it is a good unit. I couldn't get past the temperature though...
The 60 day-no questions asked guarantee and the 1-year warranty are both really good on this unit, that is a pretty big plus compared to some of the other air fryers.
I do like being able to set a timer for when to start the food cooking and the auto-shutoff the unit has for when you set it as well. I burn things way too often, "stepping out of the room for just a minute", this would definitely be of benefit for someone like me.
Air Fryer by Cozyna
The air fryer by Cozyna is a mid-range, well-priced kitchen appliance.
It boasts a 3.7 qt capacity and uses up to 70% less oil than you would with a traditional fryer.
It comes with not one, but two cookbooks (including a recipe for Molten Chocolate Lava cake Mmmmmm), AND unlike most products, comes with a skewer rack accessory. (kebabs anyone!?)
You get 1 choice of color, black. The item weight is 11 lbs, making it lighter than most of the air fryers out there. The unit dimensions are 10 x 12 x 12.25 inches, making this easily fit on your countertop or wherever else you may need to place it.
It has a digital display with adjustable temperature controls, up to 400F. It has a 60-minute timer built in and is 1500 watts. The removable parts easily pull out and are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.
This air fryer has pretty good reviews on it, as you look through most of them the only ones that really seem to be bad reviews are either people using this for a purpose it was not intended, or a malfunction in the unit. However, I wouldn't let that deter you too much if this is the one you have your eyes set upon, it seems it happens very rarely and in the few instances it has happened, the company replaced the unit quite painlessly.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Sleek and Durable design
▲ Comes with 2 cookbooks, with a total of around 50 recipes
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Good reviews on it, very few negative reviews
▲ Convenient size, one of the lighter units
▲ Digital Controls, timer, etc
▲ Comes with skewer rack
▼ A small number of customers claimed to have problems with their unit
▼ Other accessories are purchased separately (besides the skewer rack)
Overall, I think this is a nice choice.
I was fairly hard pressed to find very many negatives about this unit. If you are looking for a cheaper air fryer that works well and does what it says it will do, then this may very well be the one for you.
Once again, I like the digital controls and the fact that you can set a timer on it. The skewer rack included with it is also a huge bonus, as most all air fryers the accessories are purchased separately. To be honest, I'm really quite tempted to buy this one as well just for the Molten Chocolate Lava cake recipe... So if anyone purchases this air fryer, please tell me how the cake turns out!
Black & Decker HF110SBD
The Black & Decker air fryer features a 2-liter capacity, and dual convection fans to boost air circulation and cook your food quickly and evenly.
It has analog variable temperature controls and indicator lights.
The temperature control on this unit ranges from 175F to 400F, one of the lights show when the unit is powered on and the other one displays when the unit is preheating and turns off upon reaching the set temperature.
This air fryer does not come with a cookbook like many of the other ones do, but it does have a chart displaying generally recommended cooking times and temperatures for certain foods, to take the guesswork out for you. If you wish to see the cooking times chart, clicking the picture of the air fryer will take you to the Amazon page where it is displayed as well.
It has a cool-touch handle, and the removable parts are dishwasher safe and easy to clean.
This unit weighs in at 12.4 lbs, and its dimensions are 11.1 x 9.8 x 11.5 inches making this not necessarily one of the lighter units we have seen, but one of the smaller ones. If counter-space is an issue, this one may be a nice choice for you.
One of my concerns with this air fryer is that there have been a decent amount of comments saying that the numbers on the temperature control dial are relatively small, to the point where many were having trouble reading them. My eyes are not what they use to be, as many of you may struggle with the same issue.
As far as the rest of the unit, there have been a few reports of the fan making a hideous amount of noise, as well as some of their customer's baskets falling apart after a few months. That being said, this air fryer is also one of the very few that come with a 2-year warranty.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Slim design
▲ Dual convection fans
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Good reviews on it overall
▲ Convenient size, one of the lighter units
▲ 60-minute timer, with auto-off
▼ Analog controls with a very small font, making it hard to read
▼ Very small basket size.
▼ Very few other accessories made for this air fryer
Overall if you're looking for an air fryer, this is definitely a decent choice.
The few problems that are reported about the baskets coming apart or the fan messing up are few and far between.
It's Black & Decker brand, which we all know about (I'll leave it there... debating on if Black & Decker is good or not is like debating about sports teams to some :D )
From diving through all the reviews and all the websites I have torn apart for information, the vast majority of the people that have purchased this seem to be very happy about their purchase and have very little, or no problems.
Something else to keep in mind on this unit, with the basket size it has...
You are generally only going to be able to make enough food at once for 1-2 people. While this will be fine for some, consider how many people you will be cooking for at a time with any of these units. 1-2 people generally to me means 1 of my teenagers.
Super Deal Electric Air Fryer
The Super Deal electric air fryer uses little to no oil, like many of the other ones on the market. It boasts up to 80% less fat versus conventional frying methods. It has a dual fan convection system for quickly and evenly cooking your food. Comes with a 3.7 qt capacity basket, feeding up to four members of your family. It has a safety feature as well where the unit will not turn on unless the basket is firmly seated in place.
The removable parts are all dishwasher safe and easy to clean. The unit has analog temperature and timer controls. The temperature can be set from 180F to 400F, and the timer can be set for up to 30 minutes. There is also an auto-off function for when the timer runs its course.
The unit itself weighs approximately 10.2 lbs, and is 14" x 12.5 x 12.5", making this a midsize air fryer, but one of the lighter weight ones. It is 1300 watts. This fryer does not seem to have extra accessories really made for it though... There are a few reports that some racks and pans for other fryers would fit it, but I don't really want to include those here since they were not made specifically for it. Feel free to try out some of the other brand's accessories with this though, if you feel comfortable doing so.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Good looking and durable design
▲ Dual convection fans
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Comes with a cookbook
▲ One of the lighter weight units
▲ 30-minute timer, with auto-off
▼ Analog controls
▼ Safety feature for basket having to be in perfectly causes problems for some
▼ Very few other accessories made for this air fryer
Overall it is a decent fryer...
If I were looking for a cheaper air fryer to try out, this would be one of them that I would definitely consider. What I don't care for about it, is the safety switch for having to have the basket in perfectly... I know that it is probably a good idea to have, but from my experience with other products over the years, the switches like that always seem to get fouled up and cause problems.
Then the accessories: I love my gadgets, especially my kitchen gadgets...
I like having the option of having more accessories for an item I know I am going to use quite often. A kebab rack, or cake pan, etc would go a long ways towards raising my view of this product.
Big Boss Oil-less Air Fryer
The Big Boss oil-less air fryer comes in with a whopping 16 qt container, 1300 watts, and 2 cooking trays...That means you can cook 2 different foods, (or twice as much!) at the same time.
It boasts 3 times the cooking power, using halogen, convection, and infrared heat. The controls are analog, with light indicators.
It currently comes in 6 different colors, and the cookbooks made for it can be purchased separately. It weighs in at 14.74 lbs, and its dimensions are 16 x 12.5 x 13.5 inches... It is not called the Big Boss for nothing right? It will definitely take up some real estate on your countertop.
After diving through all the information I could find on this bad boy, overall most of their customers seem pretty happy with their purchase. There were, however, a few reports that stated that no matter what they did food did not seem to cook evenly. The few reports of malfunction in the units that I came across, the company seemed really fair about replacing the units.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Good looking and durable design
▲ Cooks your food 3 different ways at once
▲ Easy to use
▲ Cook 2 trays of food at once
▲ 16-quart capacity
▼ Analog controls
▼ Takes up quite a bit of counter space
▼ Cookbooks have to be purchased separately
Overall it is a nice fryer, especially if you have multiple people you are wanting to cook for at once.
The 6 different colors are nice, giving you a choice where you are able to match it with the rest of your appliances. Once again, I am not crazy about analog controls. I prefer digital on pretty much everything.
The bowl is rather bulky and heavy though, which can make cleaning the unit a little more of a pain for some. Also, since this isn't a completely enclosed unit it can (according to some) make the food cook more unevenly than many of the other air fryers do, so depending what you are cooking, you may need to watch out for that.
For the price, I cannot complain about this air fryer though. It is one of the better-priced ones out there for what you get.
Secura 4 Liter, 4.2 Quart
The 4 liter (4.2 quarts) Secura air fryer is a pretty nice value for the money. With the capacity size of the basket, it will cook more food at a time than many other models. There is also an option when you buy this one to get their 5.3-quart unit as well, although it generally costs around $30 dollars more.
Unlike most air fryers, this one actually comes with several accessories, included in the package are the toaster rack and skewers. Also, the units power cord is 3 foot 8 inches long, so you have more options of where to place it on your counter and still get it plugged in.
It has analog temperature and timer controls and is 1500 watts. It will run in the range of 180F to 390F. The timer will run up to 60 minutes and will automatically shut off the unit when the timer completes its cycle. The item weight is only 10.3 lbs, and the dimensions are 14.8 x 12.4 x 13.1 inches, making this a larger but lighter weight unit than most.
This air fryer has very good reviews from almost every purchaser. There are a few, however, that have claimed their unit stopped working after 5-6 months. While the number of reviews that were claiming they were having product malfunctions are low, there are enough that I still felt it necessary to mention it here so you are better informed. That being said, this does come with a 2-year manufacturer's limited warranty.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Nice length power cord
▲ 4-quart basket
▲ Easy to use, easy to clean
▲ Comes with a toaster rack and skewers
▲ One of the lighter weight units
▲ 60-minute timer, with auto-off
▼ Analog controls
▼ Takes up a decent amount of counter space
Overall, I would feel comfortable purchasing this item.
The few negative reviews it had for product malfunction were quite low in comparison to the number of people that were ecstatic about it.
The extra length of the power cord alone would definitely be a major consideration for some. Nobody likes un-boxing a new appliance to find out it has a power cord so short that you have to set the appliance right by the plug.
Once again analog controls... not my favorite. However, being one of the few units that actually come with some of the major accessories for it, it definitely brings more value to the table. The price is pretty competitive with most mid-range air fryers. All in all, I don't mind recommending this product to anyone else who thinks the few cons are not that big of a deal compared to the value this item has.
GoWise USA GW22638
This 3.7-quart GoWise air fryer comes with a digital temperature and timer interface. It has 8 different presets, making it more convenient to use.The GoWise company is a Ming's Mark brand, headquartered in Phoenix, AZ. They started off by introducing pressure cookers in the USA and have since scaled to many different items. Their quality seems to have carried through their different product lines.
With the 8 different presets on this unit, it is just 1 touch for steak, fish, pork, shrimp, chicken, fries/chips, cake, or simply a setting to warm food up. The digital controls allow you to set a temperature range of 170F to 400F.
Much like the other air fryer that this company offers (GoWISE USA 5.8-Quart), it comes in a variety of different colors, including plum. The air fryer weighs 13 lbs, and its dimensions are 12 x 8 x 8 inches. Not the lightest, but one of the smaller units.
This model is better suited for cooking for 1-2 people, if you need to cook for more then their other model (listed above) will be more convenient for you. With the size of the unit, you will have very little problems finding room for it on your countertop or wherever else you choose to use it, compared to other brands.
A few of the reviews of this product have stated that the non-stick surfaces of the basket and other removable parts do tend to chip off and then those parts start to rust. So if you go for this air fryer you may want to be extra careful when washing them.
Pros and Cons:
▲ Sleek design
▲ 3.7-quart basket, great for 1-2 people
▲ Comes with a cookbook
▲ Comes with a variety of colors to choose from
▲ One of the smaller sized units
▲ Digital Controls, auto-off when the timer completes its cycle
▼ Non-stick surfaces can start to flake off
▼ Accessories purchased separately
Overall, this air fryer is a nice value for the money.
I would tend to worry about the issue some are having with the non-stick surfaces, as I would be more prone to washing them in the dishwasher than doing it by hand. If you would be washing the removable parts by hand anyway, it may not be something you need to worry about.
This company overall has very nice reviews on the majority of its products and seem to be pretty good with communication with their customers should they have a problem. That to me is always a major plus, agree?
The option of having multiple colors to choose from is nice as well, paired with the fact that this product has the digital controls that I adore. Also, while this one does not come with any extra accessories, they are available for this brand. So you will always have the choice if you wish to get a skewer rack or cake pan, etc.
Extra's for your air fryers
I wanted to throw these in here so you could more easily find them. I won't talk much about them since they are fairly self-explanatory though, plus you came here for the reviews on the air fryers themselves right? :)As you may have seen above, there are a plethora of accessories available for your air fryer - depending on which brand and size you may have purchased, or have been thinking about purchasing.
If you follow this link here, it will take you to Amazon where you can see all of the different accessories in one place.
And then I wanted to include 2 of the higher rated cookbooks that are available for your air fryer. They both have near perfect reviews and loads of compliments about the dishes in them.
This comes with 550 recipes for about anything you can think of to cook in your air fryer.... and then some that maybe you didn't. It is available in paperback or on Kindle!
This recipe book is currently sitting at 5/5 stars on Amazon. It has 192 pages of recipes and information about using your air fryer to cook delicious vegan meals or snacks. It is available in paperback or on Kindle!
Frequently Asked Questions
➤How does an Air Fryer work?
Air Fryers work by circulation of hot air around the food. A fan inside the unit circulates the hot air, at a high rate of speed, around the food you are "frying" in it.They cook the food from every angle so no oil is needed at all.
This produces a crispy layer on your food by what is called the Maillard reaction. (This is simply a chemical reaction between amino acids and reduction of sugars that browns food and gives it a distinct flavor - IE: When you toast bread.)
➤Is it really more healthy for you?
If your goal is to lose weight or just eat better, then yes!An air fryer can be a great way to cut back on the number of calories and fat that your body intakes by cooking your food with hot air instead of greasy oils.
➤Can you use oil in an air fryer?
No, you wouldn't want to anyway right? We're trying to eat healthier! You can, however, mist your food with some oil before putting it in the unit, or 'toss' your food in oil beforehand. (Around a tablespoon will do it!)
Doing so will add a little bit of extra crunch to your food. (It's still way more healthy than drowning your food in oil whilst frying it).
The oils generally used when doing this are canola, coconut, olive, sunflower or peanut oil. (Coconut Oil is my personal favorite)
➤Why cook food in an air fryer instead of an oven?
Realistically, an air fryer is nothing more than a countertop convection oven. However, that being said...The air in the air fryer moves around at a much faster rate and is heated from the top instead.
What this does is cook your food much faster, yet still evenly, than it would in the oven, makes it more crispy (without drying the food out), and gives it a great flavor.
The air fryer is MUCH easier to clean than an oven.
It does not heat your house up in the summer like an oven does.
If you're cooking a small amount of food, it is cheaper in general than the electric or gas you would use for cooking dinner with your oven.
➤What kind of foods are you able cook in an air fryer?
When you look at the pictures of the units they always advertise showing french fries...Let me tell you, it cooks these GREAT!
However, you can cook pretty much anything in it that you can cook in your oven.
There is usually a cookbook that comes with most air fryers (depending on which model you buy), that gives a list of recipes.
People have also cooked everything from prawns, burgers, chicken, fish, pizza, hash browns, onion rings, vegetables, all the way to making banana bread!
The sky is *almost* the limit.
